What would a Western Party Be Without A Few Indians ?
Indian DrumCraft
Supplies: small embroidery hoop for each project
white cotton muslin
Gesso
assorted paints/brushes
ribbon
feathers
Directions:
Stretch a piece of muslin in each hoop.
Trim the excess from the edges.
Paint muslin with 2 or 3 coats of Gesso.
Dry overnight.
The muslin is now like canvas stretched in a hoop.

Take some time to let residents look at Indian style designs and the colors used.
Then let them paint whatever they want on their 'drums'.
Add some small feathers and ribbon for hanging at the hoop closure.

Pan For Gold
Supplies:
Small Plastic Swimming Pool Or Sandbox
(Set Pool on Table For Easy Reach)
Plastic or Mesh Strainers
Trays
Rocks Painted Gold (various sizes)
Make A Chart Showing What each gold rock size is worth
(Example: Small rock=small prize,Medium Rock=Medium Prize etc.
3 small rocks=Medium Prize 6 small rocks= Large Prize)
Prizes from Dollar Store

How To Play:
Fill the pool or sandbox with sand
Bury Gold Rocks In Sand
Give everyone a strainer and tray
Residents scoop out sand with the strainer
and bring it to their tray to sift through.
Residents Trade Rocks in For Prizes

Musical Cowboy Hats

Seat Residents in a circle.
Play a western song such as "Home On The Range"
while seated Residents pass the cowboy hat around.
Whoever is holding the hat when you stop the music is out.
Continue till you have a winner.

Needle In A Haystack

Supplies:
Brown Raffia torn to make a hay Stack
Or Brown Paper ran threw a Paper Shredder
PLace raffia in a box
Hide prizes in raffia
Small Prizes or wrapped candy
How To PLay:
Give each residents a turn finding
a prize(or 1 to 3 prizes) in the hay stack.
Once they have found a prize it is the next residents turn.
Continue till all residents have a prize.

Target Shoot
Supplies:
Rubber Dart Gun That Shoots Several Darts
(Can Be Purchased at Wal-Mart has a cartridge that shoots 4 darts)
3 - 2 liter empty plastic soda bottles
Pictures of animals to tape or glue on bottles
You coud also shoot empty tin cans
Description:
Great Mens Activity
Take 3 empty 2 liter soda bottles and place
pictures of animals on the front of them.
Rabbit, squirrels, deer etc.
Place the bottles on a bedside table towards
the very back (they fall off better when shot).
Have Residents take turns trying to shoot and knock the bottles down.
They got to use all 4 darts to try.
What the men loved about this was you actually cocked the gun like a real one.
Keep score & award best hunter a prize, a ribbon, & a Best Hunter Certificate.
(you can also have 2nd & 3rd place)
Also place an award on the bulletin board letting
the facility know who your best Hunter is.

Boot Toss
Supplies:
Cowboy Boots or Cowboy Hat
Bean Bags

How To Play:
Residents Try To Toss Bean Bags Into boots or cowboy hat.
Award 1st, 2nd & 2rd place prizes.

Wild West Saloon
Set up a Wild west saloon & play cards, roulette,checkers, coin toss etc.
